The Graduation Exhibition
Since 2001 when the first Graduation Exhibition, ‘Open the Door’, was held by the Department of Interior Design, the Exhibition has been held in October every year in the internal and external galleries, which exhibits the works of senior students. Students present the possibility of spatial design from a critical and subjective perspective by combining various theories and concepts that have been acquired over the years. Every year, the alumni association visits the exhibition to review the works and award the selected best works.
International Exchange
Since the early 2000s, the Department of Spatial design at the College of Design has formed a community that leads East Asian design education together with Musashino University in Japan and Tsinghua University in China to regularly hold on-line joint classes, workshops, seminars and international exhibitions, which became a representative example for consistent intenational exchanges. The long-term exchanges led to joint exhibitions of the three countries in ‘That’s Design!’ (2007) in Milan as well as the Milan Furniture Design Fair (2008). In addition, the students visited Japan directly thanks to the sponsorship by INAX in Japan as an international industry-university cooperation, and conducted an international program with Japanese students. The Department of Spatial design also held workshops with Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT, USA). In 2013, the Department of Spatial design submitted works to big and small exhibitions in France and Italy as well as 100%Design, Shanghai. In addition, because academic exchanges and cooperation among researchers are active, not only does the Department of Spatial design substantially improve the contents of international exchanges through joint program planning and educational seminars, but also builds up the high credibility of international relations.
