College of Design Building

The College of Design Building is composed of Main Building and the Annex, with the clean air and the beautiful scenery of Bukhan Mountain National Park as the background. The Main Building, which has 5 floors above ground as well as 2 floors underground with a gross floor area of 5300 pyeong. The Main Building holds 6 Departments of the College of Design, and the Annex holds the Graduate School of Techno Design. The College of Design Building has an administrative office on the first floor, and provides individual studios with various facilities for the Department of Metalwork and Jewelry and the Department of Ceramics on the first and second underground floors and the first floor, the Department of Spatial Design on the second floor, the Department of Industrial Design on the third floor, the Department of Decorative Arts on the fourth floor, and the Department of Fashion Design on the fifth. The Department of Entertainment Design and the Department of Automobile and Transportation Design are located in the Hyungseol Building adjacent to the College of Design Building. The College of Design Building has the shared spaces such as a gallery, a computer room, a photo studio and a comprehensive practice studio, and Ted Square which is an approximately 100-square-meters high-tech lecture room built at the Annex in 2016 and is used as a multipurpose space for international conferences, group workshops, or new-type exhibitions.

    Design Innovation Center for 3D Printing College of Design

    The UIT Design Solution Center, located on the first floor of the Annex to the College of Design Building, was opened through the Funding Project for the College Specialization in Seoul Metropolitan Area of the Ministry of Education, with the aim of building a UIT DB as well as a knowledge hub in UIT design field. The Center is equipped with machines such as laser cutting machine and RP machine as well as spaces such as VR room, usability test room, scanning room and mobile workstation room. In 2016, the Center added the Design Innovation Center for 3D Printing, and purchased a total of 6 medium- and large-sized 3D printers, including K3DP Delta 5300, the domestically largest 3D printer with the specification of 1 × 1 × 5.3m to establish 3D printing platform for developing 3D printers, printing technology, and design.

  • UMDC-UIT Motion & Media Design CenterHyungsul Hall

    The UMDC-UIT Motion & Media Design Center, located in the Hyungseol Building, is a cutting-edge video technology research center composed of video and audio studios and NLE-VFX studios, which was opened through the Funding Project for the College Specialization in Seoul Metropolitan Area in 2010. The Design Center attracted the Apple Authorized Training Center (AATC) and the Adobe Specialist Training Center (ASTC) to provide international certification trainings on video production and app development for the general public and professionals as well as students at Kookmin University.

  • Design LibrarySungkok Library

    The Design Library, which opened in 2001, is the first design library in Korea that provides various academic materials and information on design. The Design Library is currently located on the 4th floor of the Sungkok Library and has a collection of 69,000 publications on design-related fields. Among the materials, 194 periodical publications that convey the latest international trends and information in architecture, design, and crafts are particularly popular and highly useful to all students visiting the Design Library. In recent years, the Design Library has expanded its image and digital materials as well as online services through various media.
